Oct. 30: Tales of terror
October 25, 2017
Illustrated talk to reveal scary stories from antiquity
Just in time for Halloween, an illustrated talk at the University of Delaware will explore “Werewolves, Spectres and Skin-Changers: Tales of Terror from Antiquity.”
The talk, free and open to the public, will be held from 7-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30, in Room 205 Gore Hall.
Tyson Sukava, assistant professor of classics in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, will explore the dark corners of ancient literature. Humans have a persistent, strange attraction to things that go bump in the night, he says, and the ancient Greeks and Romans were no exception.
The talk will reveal stories of haunted houses, unnatural transformations and blood-curdling beasts to see what terrified audiences in classical antiquity.
