October 27, 2017
Political lies, corporate governance to be discussed at brown-bag events
The University of Delaware’s Legal Studies program will host two “brown bag lunch” talks in November, with attendees encouraged to eat their lunches while listening to the lecture and engaging in debate.

On Monday, Nov. 6, Charles Elson will speak on the topic, “Can Delaware Be Dethroned? And Why It Should Not Be,” at 12:30 p.m. in room 229 of Purnell Hall.
Elson, who is the Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair in Corporate Governance, director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance and professor of finance and of legal studies at the University, will discuss the current threats to Delaware’s incorporation supremacy and why a replacement of the state by alternative regimes will reduce ultimate shareholder power.

On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Joan DelFattore, professor emerita of English, will host “The Right to Lie” at 12:30 p.m. in room 125 of Memorial Hall.
DelFattore will outline current constitutional protections for untruthful political speech. A group discussion will follow to debate whether the public good does or does not require establishment of greater limitations.
Both events are free and open to students, faculty, staff, the public and the press.
