Nov. 8: Political deals and gridlock
October 30, 2017
Journalist to discuss whether government can be fixed
Journalist Jill Lawrence will speak about gridlock in government and the art of the political deal from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8, in room 204 of Kirkbride Hall on the University of Delaware’s Newark campus.

The talk, “The Art of the Political Deal: Can We Get It Back?” is free and open to the public.
For a president famous for “the art of the deal,” President Trump is having a singular lack of success, even with fellow Republicans, Lawrence says. But, she asks, is it his fault? And must we resign ourselves to Washington, D.C., gridlock, or can our government be fixed?
Lawrence is the commentary editor of USA Today, a columnist for the paper’s Opinion section and author of the 2017 book, The Art of the Political Deal: How Congress Beat the Odds and Broke Through Gridlock.
A former columnist for Creators Syndicate, U.S. News and World Report and the Associated Press, she has won National Press Club, Sigma Delta Chi and National Headliner awards for her writing.
Her positions have included managing editor for politics at National Journal, senior correspondent at Politics Daily, national political correspondent at USA Today and national political writer for the AP.
