April 22: Walk for water

Water Walk scheduled at Newark Reservoir

The third annual Water Walk – an event in solidarity with the millions of women around the world who must carry water each day to survive – will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, April 22, around the Newark Reservoir.

The event is sponsored by a local nonprofit, Water is Life Kenya, and by a University of Delaware registered student organization, Water is Life Kenya at UD.

Water is Life Kenya was founded by Joyce Tannian of Newark. She spends eight months each year in Kenya managing the organization’s water, livestock and jewelry projects. Since 2007, their clean water projects have transformed the lives of more than 45,000 people and their livestock.

“The Water Walk is a way to personally feel connected to people around the world,” Tannian said. “Walking for water is a major part of many women’s lives. By providing clean, accessible water, our organization ensures better, healthier lives and new opportunities for thousands of women and girls.”

Event registration is online at www.waterislifekenya.com/waterwalk. Groups and teams are encouraged.

All funds raised this year will help support Water is Life Kenya’s clean water project in the Kuku Community in southern Kenya.  More information is available on Facebook and at www.WaterIsLifeKenya.com.
