UD's Walter named CAA pitcher of week for second time this season
For the second time this season, University of Delaware ace Brandon Walter has been named the Colonial Athletic Association pitcher of the week.
Walter was recognized for his performance this past weekend against Northeastern, as he allowed just one run in eight-plus innings of work. Walter pitched into the ninth inning for the first time in his career, and struck out 11 batters. The performance helped UD defeat Northeastern 2-1, and pushed the lefty's CAA leading strikeout total to 60.
Walter shared pitcher of the week honors with Alex Royalty of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Other conference award winners included Richard Miller of Towson, player of the week; Kyle Brnovich of Elon, co-rookie of the week; and Brandon Raquet of William and Mary, co-rookie of the week.
The Blue Hens return to the diamond Wednesday afternoon when they welcome Penn for a 3 p.m. game. The Hens continue the five-game home stand with a three-game series against Hofstra this Friday (3 p.m.), Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
