April 6: Millennial engagement

Entrepreneur David Yarus to discuss millennials, marketing, online dating

Entrepreneur David Yarus will discuss start-up culture and millennial engagement at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 6, in Room 206 of Kirkbride Hall. The presentation is sponsored by University of Delaware Hillel and the Horn Program of Entrepreneurship.

Yarus, 30, took the tech world by storm when he created the Jewish dating app JSwipe, often referred to as the “Jewish Tinder.” Yarus, along with his three friends and co-founders, began working on the app in a warehouse in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and they officially launched the application to success during the Jewish holiday of Passover in 2014. The application is especially popular among millennial users and has succeeded in establishing love connections for thousands of its users.

Yarus will be speaking about his inspirations for the app and how his Jewish identity influenced JSwipe’s creation. His' talk will focus on technology, finding your passion and networking to find meaningful connections.

Those attending will have the opportunity to ask Yarus questions about current app culture and the start-up world.

UD marketing intern Sarah Bernstein, who has played a part in the planning of this event says, “It has been such an incredible learning experience, getting to take what I'm learning in the classroom and put it to direct use in my community. I am excited to hear Yarus speak because he really ‘gets’ today's generation.”

The presentation is free for UD students.
