Journalist Hanamura to screen, discuss World War II documentary
The University of Delaware’s First Year Experience Program will present a viewing and discussion of documentary producer and journalist Wendy Hanamura's Honor Bound: A Personal Journal at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Trabant University Center Theater. The event is free and open to the public.
Hanamura is director of partnerships for Internet Archive and a presenter for London TEDx.
The documentary recounts the experiences of her father and the Japanese American 442nd Regimental Combat Team during the Second World War.
The 442nd was part of U.S. combat forces who served while their families were being held in American internment camps.
Building on a career in journalism and nonprofit media, Hanamura employs her storytelling skills to share stories locked in Internet Archive, the world's largest digital library.
Hanamura graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University and was a Rotary International Fellow at the University of Tokyo, where she studied architecture with Fumihiko Maki.
The First Year Experience at the University of Delaware helps students develop their potential to succeed personally, academically and socially, not only within our diverse community, but as members of a global society. First Year Experience students receive an introduction to the history and traditions of UD while being exposed to the cultural and recreational resources of the campus and region.
