Reception in Old College Gallery to mark retirement

The  Department of Art and Design will hold a reception to celebrate the career of Prof. Robert Straight from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, in Old College Gallery on the University of Delaware’s Newark campus.

Straight, a painter who has been a member of the UD faculty for 36 years, is retiring. The celebration will be held in conjunction with the exhibition “Faculty X,” showcasing recent work by 16 members of the department and on display through Dec. 9 in the gallery.

The celebration is free and open to the public, but those planning to attend are asked to RSVP at artdepartment@udel.edu.

Straight's paintings, which are informed by investigations of science and math, have been exhibited throughout the United States at museums including the Delaware Art Museum, Susquehanna Art Museum, Detroit Institute of Art, Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum and the National Academy of Sciences and at galleries in New York City. His work also is in numerous corporate and private collections.

At UD, he has taught various courses in painting, is coordinator of the department’s graduate program and is a graduate adviser.
