UD women's soccer standouts Zelenky, Adams named All-CAA

Led by third-time selection Natalie Zelenky, the University of Delaware women’s soccer squad has placed four student-athletes on the All-Colonial Athletic Association all-star teams.

Zelenky, a senior forward and a three-time All-CAA selection, earned a spot on the All-CAA second team while senior midfielder Nikki Adams was a third team choice, freshman midfielder Dani Kabat was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team, and senior defender Michelle McEnroe was UD's representative on the CAA All-Academic Team. The teams were selected based on a vote of the 10 conference head coaches.

A four-year standout, Zelenky became just the eighth player in UD history to earn All-CAA honors three times, as she was a third team pick in 2014 and a second team selection last season. She also earned all-rookie honors as a freshman in 2013. Beth Gregory is UD's all-time leader in conference honors, having earned first team all-conference laurels all four years between 1994 and 1997.

An honor student as a pre-veterinary and animal biosciences major, Zelenky led the team in scoring this fall as she tallied six goals and three assists for 15 points and became only the fourth player in UD history to lead the team in points three straight seasons. She finished her career at UD ranked eighth all-time with 74 games played, sixth with 25 goals scored, sixth with 60 points, sixth with eight game-winning goals, and first with 213 shots.

Adams, a co-captain and psychology major, started all 18 games this fall and tallied a goal and three assists to rank fourth on the team in points and also had 21 shots. She finished her career having played in 73 games with 59 starts while adding seven goals and eight assists for 22 points.

Kabat, a public policy major, was among the top freshmen in the CAA as she played in 18 games with five starts and ranked third on the team in points with six on three goals. She tallied goals against Villanova and Saint Joseph’s during the first part of the season and tallied the game-winner in a 2-0 win over Elon late in the season. She also had 21 shots to rank fourth on the squad.

McEnroe, an honor student as a communications major with a minor in psychology, anchored a  defense that posted three shutouts and allowed just one goal four other times. She started all 18 games this year and led the team with 1,676 minutes played, the fourth highest single season total in UD history. She tallied one assist and finished her career with four goals and three assists in 68 career games.

UD, led by 27th-year head coach Scott Grzenda, went 4-13-1 this season and placed eighth in the CAA standings with a mark of 3-5-1, missing a berth in the CAA tournament by just one game.

James Madison University senior midfielder Ashley Herndon was chosen as the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association player of the year; Drexel University junior goalkeeper Christiana Ogunsami and College of William and Mary senior back Clara Logsdon shared CAA defender of the year honors; James Madison forward Haley Crawford was named the CAA rookie of the year; and Drexel head coach Ray Goon was selected as the CAA coach of the year.
