UD's Jenkins, Swann named second team All-CAA in volleyball

University of Delaware seniors Autumn Jenkins and Alexa Swann have been named to the All-Colonial Athletic volleyball second team while freshman Maria Bellinger has earned CAA All-Rookie honors.

Jenkins, an outside hitter, has appeared in all 29 matches while making 28 starts for the Blue Hens, ranking second on the team with 301 kills (2.69 per set) and 352 digs (3.14 per set). She has posted 17 double-doubles on the season, and is tied for sixth in the CAA with a team-leading 29 service aces.

Jenkins has reached double figure kills in 19 matching including nine of the last 10 contests, and blasted a season-high 20 kills during the win at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) on Oct. 23. Jenkins, who was named CAA player of the week on Monday, needs just six digs to reach 1,000 for her career, and has totaled 952 kills as a Blue Hen.

Swann, a middle blocker and team captain, has started all 29 matches for UD, leading the team and ranking sixth in the conference with a .298 attack percentage. Swann also paces the squad and is fourth in the league with a 1.05 blocks average, currently ranking second in school history with 1.10 blocks per set and eighth with 377 career blocks.

She has totaled 243 kills (2.17 per set) this season, third most on the squad, and has reached double figure kills in nine matches including a season-high 16 during the victory at Elon on Oct. 30.

Bellinger, an outside hitter, has seen action in all 29 contests while making 26 starts during her rookie campaign, leading Delaware with 307 kills for an average of 2.77 per set. She also is fourth on the Blue Hens with 154 digs, while her 44 blocks are third most on the squad.

Bellinger, who was named CAA rookie of the week on Nov. 7, has posted double figure kills in 16 matches including five straight, and slammed a season-high 21 kills at UNCW. Her five double-doubles are tied for second most on the team, and she tallied a season-best 14 digs in matches against Penn, UNCW and Northeastern.

Additionally, UD senior captain and libero Taylor Hollingsworth represented the Blue Hens on the CAA All-Academic team. Hollingsworth, a nursing major, leads UD and ranks fourth in the CAA with 4.63 digs per set this season. She currently ranks eighth in Blue Hen history with 1,532 career digs, while her 3.48 digs per set average is ninth in school history.

UD, which won eight of its final 10 matches to finish the regular season 14-15 overall and 8-8 in the conference, earned the sixth seed in the CAA tournament was scheduled to take on third-seeded Northeastern Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals at UNCW’s Hanover Hall.
