Professor wins ‘Drive for Delaware’ campaign

Carla Morris’ support for United Way earns her new car

Carla Morris, assistant professor in the University of Delaware’s Associate in Arts Program in Dover, has won a 2016 Kia Soul, thanks to her participation in UD’s annual employee United Way campaign.

Morris, who has a long history of donating to UD’s employee campaign, increased her annual donation to United Way by $52 (or $1 per week), and she was entered in a statewide “Drive for Delaware” contest.

At this year’s 2016 United Way of Delaware annual meeting, her name was drawn, winning her a new car. The 2016 Kia Soul was donated by KIA of Wilmington, AutoTeam Delaware.

Throughout the state, United Way of Delaware works every day to ensure that children succeed through quality education and reading on grade level by the third grade; to help young people develop positive assets to become college or career-ready; and to assist Delawareans in creating paths for economic stability and financial empowerment. Morris participated in UD’s workplace campaign as a convenient way of getting involved.

“We congratulate Carla on her new car, and thank her for her continuing support of the University’s United Way campaign,” said Michele Jones, coordinator of the UD employee campaign and work-life coordinator in Human Resources’ Compensation and Benefits.

“I’m very happy for Prof. Morris and grateful to her and everyone at the University who supports our annual United Way campaign,” said Darcell Griffith, director of Compensation and Benefits. “The generous support of our faculty and staff over the years has made a lasting difference to so many in our community.”
