Smith Hall reopens after section of atrium ceiling collapses
Smith Hall at the University of Delaware will reopen on its normal schedule on Wednesday, July 13.
The building, located at the corner of South College and Amstel avenues, was evacuated around noon, July 12, after a portion of the ceiling in the building’s atrium collapsed. No one was injured, and the building was evacuated immediately until the situation could be evaluated.
On Wednesday, Smith Hall will be open as normal, except for a section of the ground floor, the second-floor walkway beneath the area where the ceiling fell and a section of the main staircase in the lobby, which will all be cordoned off.
The Starbucks in the lobby of Smith Hall is not open during the summer.
