University announces hours, closings for winter holiday break

The winter holiday break at the University of Delaware begins for students, who will have the last of their finals exams on Saturday, Dec. 17, with residence halls closing at 10 p.m. that evening.

Classes will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 3, with the beginning of Winter Session.

University offices will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Jan. 2, reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Following is information concerning hours and closings on campus:

University Library

Morris Library will be open until 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, and will be closed Sunday, Dec. 18.

Morris Library will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 19, through Friday, Dec. 23, then closed from Saturday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Jan. 2. It will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3, with regular hours of 8 a.m.-9 p.m.

UD Bookstore

The Barnes and Noble University Bookstore has announced that fall semester hours have ended as of Friday, Dec 16.

Hours for the University Bookstore and the Blue Hen Cafe Hours through the winter holiday are as follows:

• Saturday, Dec. 17, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

• Sunday, Dec. 18, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Monday, Dec. 19, through Friday, Dec. 23, 10 a.m.-6 pm.

• Saturday, Dec. 24, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Sunday, Dec. 25, closed.

• Monday, Dec. 26, through Friday, Dec. 30, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

• Saturday, Dec. 31, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Sunday, Jan. 1, closed.

Winter Session hours will begin on Monday, Jan. 2.

Athletics

The Bob Carpenter Center will be the site of three men’s basketball games through the winter holiday break, with the Blue Hens facing Iona at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, Hofstra at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, and the College of Charleston at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 2.

The women’s basketball team will also be in action at home on Monday, Jan. 2, facing William and Mary at 3 p.m.

Campus Mail Services

Campus Mail Services will offer reduced services on Friday, Dec. 23, announcing that:

• There will be no scheduled afternoon pickup at white campus mailboxes that day.

• Any campus office that will be closed should contact Campus Mail to hold delivery.

• Those who require a large pickup of mail before 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 23, should contact Campus Mail by noon.

Development office

For the convenience of donors who wish to make contributions, the Office of University Development can be reached at 302-831-2104 and will be staffed from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, and from 7:30 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Dec. 31.

Messages will be monitored throughout the day on Saturday, Dec. 31 – responses will be honored until 5 p.m.

UD Ice Arenas

UD Ice Arenas will hold holiday skating sessions at the Fred Rust Ice Arena from Dec. 23-Jan. 1. The arena will be closed for Christmas, Sunday, Dec. 25.

The arena will be decorated for the holidays with more than 2,000 lights and the ice will be painted as a winter wonderland.

Special sessions include: Friday, Dec. 23, 1-3:15 p.m. and 7:30-9:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, from 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3:15 p.m.; Monday-Friday, Dec. 26-30, 1-3:15 p.m., 4:30-6:30 p.m. and 7:30-9:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 31, from 1-4 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 1, from 1-4 p.m.

Family Fun weekends kick off on Saturday, Jan. 6, from 1-3 p.m., throughout the month of January.

February special events and activities will take place during the 1-3 p.m. public skating sessions on Saturdays and Sundays.

Parking Services

Parking Services has announced that it will be closing at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 23, for the holiday break. All online services will be available.

Recreation

The Carpenter Sports Building (Little Bob) general facility will be open from 6 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17. It will be closed Sunday, Dec. 18.

The Little Bob will again be open from 6 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 19-Thursday, Dec. 19-22 and from 6 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 23.

The building will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24, through Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The 7 p.m. lap and recreational swim session has ben cancelled from Sunday, Dec. 18, through Friday, Dec. 23.

The only lap swim session offered on Friday, Dec. 23, will be from 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Residence halls, dining

Residence halls will close at 10 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17. Residence halls will reopen for Winter Session with check-in from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 2. The first meal in the dining halls will be dinner that day.

Student Health Services

Student Health Services is open 24 hours until Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 p.m.

During the week of Dec. 19-23, it will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Student Health Services will return to 24-hour availability beginning at 9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 2.

UDairy Creamery

The UDairy Creamery will be open through Friday, Dec. 23, from 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. It will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Jan. 2. It will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 9 a.m.

January hours are 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.

Also, the creamery will be open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 16, from11 a.m.-8 p.m.

UDairy Creamery will be on hand at all men's, women's and Delaware 87ers basketball games.
