University of Delaware senior April Kwon combined her passion for music and neuroscience as a double major in applied music (viola) and cognitive science. SNACK ATTACK COMING? MEET YOUR NEXT CRUNCH
UD junior Brandon Tang is helping turn locally grown lima beans into the next big puffed snack. The mechanical engineering major is working with an extruder machine to optimize the puffing process. With health-conscious consumers driving demand for plant-based snacks, Tang’s work could lead to a protein-packed, fiber-rich treat made from one of Delaware’s top crops. -

INFORMING LANDSCAPE DECISIONS
Senior landscape architecture major Aleena Sabir spent the summer identifying and inventorying plants in The Grove — a small area on The Green between Alison Hall and the Caesar Rodney Dining Hall. Her research will contribute to UD’s first horticulture-focused landscape maintenance plan, guiding future care of campus plantings. Working with UD Facilities, Sabir combined fieldwork, tech tools, and plant knowledge to help shape a more sustainable campus landscape. -

STUDYING THE WIND
UD junior Paige Burchell spent the summer researching how tropical cyclone wind profiles change as storms move over land — where they cause the most damage. Burchell worked with meteorology professor Shuai Wang to help fill key knowledge gaps in storm modeling. A double major in meteorology and applied math, she’s focused on improving forecasts that could better protect lives and property.
