New academic structure supports faculty and bolsters innovation
October 15, 2025
The reorganization builds on existing partnerships to improve access and collaboration at UD
On Oct. 1, the University of Delaware’s Office of the Provost launched a reorganization of the four largest central administrative units that support the university’s instructional mission — the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning (CTAL), UD Online, Academic Technology Services (ATS) and Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS).
These four units have a long history of collaboration, to deliver programming that enhances teaching across the university and across the lifespan. While each has its own distinct focus, they share areas of overlap and synergy. To harness these commonalities, the University has created a new umbrella unit, tentatively named the Center for Innovation in Lifelong Learning and Teaching (CILLT), pronounced “silt.”
The purpose of CILLT is to eliminate unnecessary silos, redeploy human resources toward emerging frontiers of teaching and learning innovation, and strengthen support for faculty and instructional staff.
Each unit’s core work and distinct roles will remain intact within CILLT. In the spring, all units will move into a shared space designed to further encourage collaboration and innovation. The new location will include meeting rooms, classrooms and event space to support their functions — and will serve as a welcoming hub for faculty, staff and students.
