First Year Seminar Program seeks peer mentors
September 16, 2020
Applications open Sept. 18 for those interested in helping first-year students in 2021
The University of Delaware First Year Seminar Program is seeking Peer Mentors for fall semester 2021.
Peer Mentors are upperclass students who serve as resources and role models for first-year students. To serve as a FYS Peer Mentor, a student must have cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8 and be involved in several organizations on campus.
These students serve as student liaisons for new first-year students, build a sense of academic community among a small group of first-year students, and serve as resources for first-year students with questions or concerns.
All Peer Mentors are required to take a one-credit, pass/fail class (UNIV301) that meets during the second half of the spring semester 2021. Students must be able to attend this class to participate in the program. Peer Mentors receive $800 in compensation over the course of the semester, with an additional $100 for each year they serve, with a maximum stipend of $1000. Peer Mentors receive one credit for attending and passing the training class.
The application deadline is noon on Friday, Oct. 9.
Further information, including an application form, will be available on the First Year Seminar webpage beginning Friday, Sept. 18. An interest meeting will be held via Zoom at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21.
