Creating Better Posters

Workshops teach tips, principles of effective poster design

Whether it explains research for an academic conference or provides information to promote an upcoming event, a poster should make a statement. To do this, the design, writing and presentation must work together.

Explore techniques of an effective poster during two workshops in April on the University of Delaware campus.

Learn and apply the basic principles of design to posters using PowerPoint during the “Creating Effective Posters” workshop. Attendees will review examples of effective and ineffective posters, and become familiar with templates, resolution, printing and online resources. The workshop takes place on Tuesday, April 16, from 2-3 p.m. in Morris Library.

For those presenting at a conference, discover practical tips on how best to represent your research data on posters during the “Research Poster Design” workshop. Attendees will focus on communicating their research through text and graphics, and learn how to speak effectively about the research with an audience. The workshop takes place on Tuesday, April 23 from 2-3 p.m. in Morris Library.

The workshops are sponsored by the UD Library, Museums and Press and the University Writing Centers.

Both workshops are free and open to UD students, faculty and staff. Registration is required as seating is limited.
