CTAL to host drop-in syllabus review clinic
The University of Delaware Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning (CTAL) will host a walk-in syllabus clinic on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 25-26, to help faculty edit and optimize syllabi for their upcoming courses.
The clinic will take place from 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. on both days in the Faculty Commons (116 Pearson Hall). Those who cannot attend during these hours may email CTAL-info@udel.edu or call 302-831-2027 to schedule a private consultation, either face-to-face or virtually via video conferencing or telephone.
The goal of the clinic is to help all who teach at UD, including part-time instructors and graduate students, review syllabi, provide suggestions and feedback, and consult on any teaching or learning issues they may anticipate. For those faculty who are moving their courses to Canvas, CTAL can help ensure the course syllabus reflects any new information, policies or assignments.
Faculty who use CTAL’s syllabus consultation services have high praise for the value of the process: “Consultation with CTAL for the design and redesign of my course syllabus has been instrumental in the ongoing process of creating alignment between course goals, learning outcomes, assessment, content and activities. I feel very fortunate to have CTAL as a resource at UD and will continue to utilize consultation for the process of adapting my syllabi,” said Carly Pacanowski, assistant professor of nutrition.
Faculty are encouraged to use the University of Delaware’s Syllabus Template (accessible at http://ctal.udel.edu/syllabus-template/ ) to set up a new course syllabus or revise an existing one. This template provides instructors with guiding questions and suggestions for language about policies and communication. CTAL consultants are happy to review any of these in-person during the clinic.
The Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning offers many services, including confidential consultations, course design, learning assessment, and resources and workshops on classroom strategies.
