Get familiar with Library resources during spring workshops

The University of Delaware Library, Museums & Press is stocked with resources to help everyone from UD students, faculty and staff to members of the community.

As the spring semester begins, get ahead of the curve and discover the breadth of tools available within Morris Library, before projects have been assigned and deadlines are looming. These workshops provide introductions to the overall Library and the Student Multimedia Design Center (SMDC). Instructors can also register for an orientation to the Film and Video Collection.

Student Multimedia Design Center

Explore one of the most creative resources on campus — the SMDC on the lower level of Morris Library — during this workshop that occurs three times: Tuesday, Feb. 6, from 3-3:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 7, from 11-11:30 a.m.; and Friday, Feb. 9,from 12:30-1 p.m.

SMDC staff will lead participants on a tour of the interactive space to highlight the equipment, services and studios that are available to all UD students, faculty and staff. They will walk away with the confidence to ace that video or audio podcast project on the syllabus this semester or create a personal multimedia masterpieces with specialty equipment and studios.

Morris Library: All-Inclusive Orientation, Tour

Particpants will discover how the Library’s resources can support their goals during this workshop that occurs twice: Monday, Feb. 12, at 12:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 3:30 p.m.

Throughout the orientation, participants will identify various service desks and learn how they will benefit them; explore research, study, entertainment and production spaces; consult multiple departments to find information; and get familiar with the Library webpage.

Orientation to Film and Video Collection

Video is a dominant player in today’s multimedia landscape. Those teaching a course this semester will be able to discover seamless and copyright-conscious ways to integrate media into their classes during this workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 9-10 a.m.

This teaching-focused workshop will highlight the video, gaming and streaming media materials and services available to help engage students with the coursework. Instructors will explore which films and videos are available for class viewing, how videos can be checked out and scheduled for future use, and what kinds of streaming media resources are available through the collection.

All workshops are free of charge, but registration is required as seating is limited.

All Morris Library visitors need photo identification to enter. Visitors with UD ONEcards can use those at the turnstiles for easy access to the Library. If you do not have a UD ONEcard, you will need a state-issued ID (a driver’s license, a government-issued or school-issued photo ID, etc.) to enter.
