Additional Funding Opportunities

Students are encouraged to explore scholarship resources to help pay for college, and some resources are provided below.  These include a select number of UD endowments, an external scholarship listing, and scholarship search engines.

UD Endowments

Endowments are funds provided by UD's generous donors, and may have specific criteria for awarding.  While UD matches up most endowments to eligible students, a select number require a separate application and are included here.

Leon & Margaret Slocomb Outstanding Student Recognition Award
Established by Mr. and Mrs. Slocomb to recognize students in the Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics who are judged by the selection committee to be hard-working "average" students, and viewed as very creative, very diligent, and very trustworthy.  Student academic performance is to be a secondary consideration in the selection of the recipient, as the Slocombs' wish is to recognize students who are not necessarily honors students, but those who exhibit the characteristics noted above.

The University of Delaware reviews scholarships, made possible by its generous alumni or friends in order to provide students with opportunities to succeed and pursue academic goals, for new recipients each June.

The Harker Family Scholarship

William & Marie Cotty Engineering Scholarship

Wilmington Trust Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate student with the following preference:
- First preference to children of past employees of Wilmington Trust Company (WTC), whether retired, deceased, or separated as a function of the buyout, and current employees of WTC (the corporate name will survive for some operating units of the combined banks) or M & T Bank who were previously part of the WTC family.
- Second preference to any employee of WTC or M & T Bank working out of local offices of the combined bank entity who were never part of the pre-merger WTC family.
- Third preference to children of any employee of M & T Bank as the successor corporation.

External Scholarships

External scholarships may be offered by employers, clubs, foundations, community or religious organizations, or other groups.  They require students to search and apply for them.  Scholarship monies go unclaimed every year, and they can be awarded to regular students with regular accomplishments, or unique students with unique interests, or unusual students with unusual abilities.

Students should check with their state higher education assistance agencies/authorities, as many will have resources for their state residents.  Delaware residents can find additional information at Delaware Goes To College.

UD also provides an external scholarship list with information on scholarships offered by entities who have requested we share their scholarship opportunities with our students.

Finally, students may explore various scholarship sites where they can search for scholarships seeking unique abilities, accomplishments, demographics, interests and/or courses of study.
