Areas of Expertise

  • Research interest include ocean observing, ocean biogeography, polar ecosystems, coastal ecosystems, remote sensing, phytoplankton, bioluminescence and evolution.
  • Focuses on biological oceanography and biogeography, working to pinpoint where ocean organisms live, their populations and factors that influence their distributions.
  • Oliver utilizes remote sensing tools in his work, including satellite imaging. He tracks, among other factors, the impact of climate change on sea temperatures and ocean processes.
  • Is an inaugural member of UD's Robotic Discovery Laboratories, established in 2014. Oversees the Ocean Exploration, Remote Sensing and Biogeography Laboratory at the University of Delaware
