Areas of Expertise
- Research focuses on the physics and chemistry of "soft" materials, including colloids, polymers and biomolecular materials.
- Works to create engineering applications for these materials in the areas of energy conversion, nanotechnology, biotechnology, structured and complex fluids.
- Has partnered with Genentech, Amgen, Chemours, Procter and Gamble, DuPont, Syngenta, International Flavors and Fragrances, the National Science Foundation, Sandia National Laboratories, NASA, the Department of Energy, the National Institutes of Health and the Army Research Laboratory.
- Recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Soft Matter Lectureship Award, and the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal. Fellow of the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
