Accommodations and Services

Assistive technology is any tool that helps students with disabilities perform tasks more effectively, easily or independently, such as assistive listening devices and notetaking apps.

Accommodations for dining and exceptions to the dining policies and requirements must go through the Registered Dietitian in Dining Services.

This accommodation is for students who experience brief, periodic exacerbations of their disability that may interfere with course attendance.

Disability-related housing accommodations (e.g., a single room, air-conditioning, modified bathroom facilities, strobe light fire alarms, etc) can be requested through DSS.

Eligible students can request American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting, Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART), video captioning and transcription of pre-recorded videos.

Notetaking support can include audio recording class lectures, requesting a volunteer notetaker or using notetaking technology.

DSS collaborates with the Registrar’s office to support students who need accessible classrooms and priority registration.

Reasonable test accommodations may include reduced-distraction testing environments, extended time on tests, use of a computer with assistive software and other alternatives as appropriate.

ADA transport involves service to classes or other University activities within the UD service area on a temporary or recurring basis. If wheelchair assistance is needed, a vehicle with the proper lift will be used.

DSS can provide support for course substitutions with sufficient evidence that a disability substantially impacts or limits the student from learning a specific subject.
