    I would like to open this letter with a shoutout to our Spark! Symposium speakers Amanda Crandall, Muhammad Ishfaq, Idowu Kunlere, Annette Pic, Brittany Powers and Rachel Zobel who wowed the crowd a couple of weeks ago at our fall event. In short eloquent talks, they brought complex and diverse ideas, including child poverty, water quality and energy justice, to a general audience. Some of my colleagues will say that you are not ready to earn an advanced degree until you can explain to your grandma and grandpa what you do and why it is important in a way that they can comprehend.

    On any team, it’s important to leverage roles and expertise of the different members in the best possible way, and part of this issue celebrates one of these accomplishments. The Graduate College is unique among the 10 colleges at UD because we have to work closely with the other colleges and many other non-academic units toward a unique purpose: excellence in graduate education and research. We offer a university-wide perspective on graduate education, and we do not try to be all things to all parts of the university.

    Several of our Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Graduate students will be presenting research at the annual meeting of the Society of Neurosciences, November 12-16, 2022. This event features “scientists from around the world congregating to discover new ideas, share their research, and experience the best the field has to offer.”
