The GLBA applies to “Nonpublic Personal Information” about students who receive financial assistance and related services at the University. Nonpublic Personal Information includes any information students provide to the University when seeking to obtain financial assistance and any information the University obtains about them in connection with providing financial assistance services. Nonpublic Personal Information also includes any list, description, or other grouping derived from personally identifiable financial information when that information is not publicly available. and their family who obtain financial services (called “Nonpublic Personal Information”).

The GLBA requires the University to safeguard the privacy of Nonpublic Personal Information and the security of that information. The Office of the General Counsel has primary responsibility for overseeing the University’s GLBA privacy compliance and for complying with the University’s GLBA Policy. Information Technology has primary responsibility for overseeing the security of the Nonpublic Personal Information, including assisting various areas within the University with conducting risk assessments of the data. The Office of General Counsel and Information Technology work closely together to coordinate compliance activities.
