Community Choral Programs

The University of Delaware choral program offers singers the opportunity to experience technical excellence and meaningful music making through two community choral programs. The programs are under the direction of Unidel Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies Paul D. Head.

Schola Cantorum


Schola Cantorum is the Symphonic Choir at the University of Delaware that is open to current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members who love to sing! Under the direction of Paul D. Head, Schola regularly performs large works such as Orff's Carmina Burana, Brahms' Requiem, Mozart's C Minor Mass, and Rutter's Gloria with the UD, Newark, and Delaware Symphony Orchestras.

Auditions for Schola are held in the fall and spring each year. Interested singers should complete an interest form (linked below).

Rehearsals: Tuesdays, 7:30-9:30 p.m., Room 118, Amy E. duPont Music Building​

Delaware Choral Scholars


Delaware Choral Scholars (DCS) is an award-winning international touring ensemble that has grown from the University of Delaware’s longstanding choral tradition into one of the world’s leading chamber choirs. DCS is a dynamic network of musicians, including current UD choral students and University alumni, immersed in performance and educational projects that connect ambitious singers and conductors through artistic collaboration, cultural exchange and a shared commitment to choral excellence.

As of October 2025, DCS held the top position on Interkultur’s World Rankings list, and they are competing in the European Grand Prix on April 18, 2026
