Computing and data science for soft materials: CERTIFICATE
About this Program
In today’s world, the scientists who reach toward tomorrow’s innovations must be ready to reach out together. This certificate is designed to give scholars from different disciplines key insights into data science as a research tool, while also sharpening their ability to communicate, collaborate and create as a team. This nine-credit certificate helps graduate students from all majors develop critical interdisciplinary skills, cutting-edge computing techniques and the ability to build from a foundation of common purpose.
It is open for enrollment with eligibility extending to graduate students (M.S. or Ph.D.) at the University of Delaware and Delaware State University, as well as employees at local chemical industries who have received a bachelor’s in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, or computer science/engineering.
The certificate involves completion of three, three-credit technical courses and three professional training activities. The technical course requirement includes a three-credit primary disciplinary elective course, a three-credit secondary disciplinary elective course and the three-credit CHEG/ECEG/CISC/MSEG 848 Hackathon course. The certificate also includes three professional requirements: a career pathway (completion of a summer internship or the summer teaching workshop), a summer community outreach activity, and a minimum of four professional workshops.
