Biography
Pete Marjenin received his training as an ethnomusicologist at Kent State University and Florida State University. He has taught courses on World Music, Rock Music, American Roots Music, Popular Music, and Music Appreciation, inspiring students through global perspectives on sound, culture, history, and performance. His research focuses primarily on popular music, rock music, and heavy metal music. Through his work in metal music, Pete examines the presence of traditional music and culture in folk metal as well as the Carnivalesque in heavy metal music, focusing primarily on the American punk-metal band, Gwar.
