Biography

Dr. Jianpeng Feng is a highly active percussionist and educator with international influence. In recent years, he has performed at the highest level on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in concerto appearances, and at international events. Since 2021, Dr. Feng has served as the percussionist for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. He performed on the cast album for the Off-Broadway production Soft Power, which was nominated for the 63rd Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Previously, he was the solo musician for the Broadway revival of the Tony Award-winning M. Butterfly.

As a virtuosic marimbist, Dr. Feng has been invited to perform as a concerto soloist with the Master Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra in San Francisco and San Jose, CA. He has been featured in solo and chamber concerts multiple times by the Percussive Arts Society in Indianapolis and its other chapters worldwide, including those in New York, China, and Japan. Over the course of his career, he has collaborated closely with directors, actors, and musicians who have won Grammy, Oscar, Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe awards.

As a percussionist with an international reputation, Dr. Feng holds memberships in several professional organizations and has organized numerous significant events. As co-founder of the Percussive Arts Society China Chapter, he has organized annual international percussion festivals in Beijing, China, since 2016. He has also directed summer and winter music camps at The Hartt School, the Eastman School of Music, and the University of Minnesota Duluth.

An educator dedicated to fostering diversity in the music community, Dr. Feng is an expert in Chinese percussive arts and has presented masterclasses and lecture-recitals at many universities, colleges, and conservatories. Since 2020, he has operated Feng’s Music Channel, also known as Dao-Dao-Feng, across multiple platforms, attracting nearly one million subscribers worldwide. His channel explores a wide range of genres, including classical, jazz, contemporary, musicals, and pop, as well as music from diverse cultures such as Chinese, West African, Middle Eastern, and American traditions.

Dr. Feng currently teaches at the University of Delaware and The Hartt School Community Division and is sponsored by Innovative Percussion and Sabian Cymbals.
