Two students working in the CEI Resources Room

The Center for Intercultural Engagement (CIE) serves as a hub for tackling food insecurity at the University of Delaware. We recognize that access to food and supplies is an essential need for belonging and thriving at UD. We also know that access to free gender-affirming clothing and professional attire is crucial for students’ success. Learn more about the programs and services we offer below.

Addressing Food Insecurity at University of Delaware

Food insecurity is "the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe food, or ability to acquire such food in a socially acceptable manner." As the Hope Center explains, in its most extreme forms, food insecurity is accompanied by physiological sensations of hunger.

Data from the #RealCollege survey indicate that of the 86,000 students who participated, 45% of respondents were food insecure in the previous 30 days, 56% were housing insecure in the previous year, and 17% experienced homelessness in the previous year.

These events are open to our campus community and will be an opportunity for folks to grab free produce and canned items. Remember, you can drive up, though you do not need a car to collect food. Come if you're hungry, get hungry, will be hungry or just like to have some extra food!

Check back each month for announcements about upcoming Mobile Food Pantry events. Registration opens two weeks prior and closes at 8 a.m. the day before each event.

FAQs

The Clothing Coop offers 15-minute appointments during its operating hours. Walk-ins are also accepted during those hours are accepted, but we do ask that you still submit the appointment form; you may enter a same-day walk-in time.

Email Eric Aquino, Clothing Coop intern, with any questions.

There is no charge for any of the items. To ensure a level of equity, we are asking that folks take up to 4 items each visit to the closet. That means that if you schedule an appointment two times in one semester, you can receive up to 8 items from the Coop!

Yes! We are designing a gender-affirming space and we also welcome anyone looking for free career clothes. We have various types of blouses, slacks, blazers, and many more items from which you can choose.

We are currently collecting winter coats and accessories (scarves, gloves, hats, etc.), sweaters, and other winter clothing.

Specific size needs include sizes XS/S/M for traditionally masculine clothing, and XS/L/XL/XXL for traditionally feminine clothing.

We stock transtape/t-tape, tucking kits, binders, makeup and jewelry. Additionally, we have created a size-conversion sheet so that our students may walk in, know their size in clothing of any gender, and take whichever item most affirms them.
