Housing Communities

On-campus theme housing and Living Learning Communities (LLCs) provide students with unique experiences designed around academic programs, interests or identities. When you live in an LLC, you live among students with shared academic or personal interests. It's a great way to meet friends, create a supportive community or participate in programming to enhance your undergraduate resumé.

Most LLCs are directly supported by an academic department. Some are required by major, though most are optional.

You can apply in the Housing Portal when applications are open.

First-Year Required Living Learning Communities

Some majors and programs require their students to live together in residence halls, while other Living Learning Communities are optional. These are the Living Learning Communities required by major or program. Communities below reflect the 2026–2027 academic year.

First-Year Honors

First year students admitted to the Honors College are housed together in Louis Redding Hall. The Honors LLC is supported by the Honors College and enhanced by upper division peer mentors who live in the building to help first-year honors students be successful in their transition to UD.

The First-Year Honors LLC brings together students from across all colleges, allowing new students to interact with their peers across different ideas, interests and perspectives. Peer mentors called Munson Fellows are experienced Honors students offering guidance, answering questions and supporting new Honors students academically and socially throughout their first year. Students in the LLC will engage in social events and signature programs, such as our weekly Dr. Munson Study Breaks. We also bring faculty and staff into the community allowing students to interact with their professors and Honors staff beyond the classroom.

All first year students admitted to the Honors College are required to live together in the Honors LLC. Due to this requirement, only roommate requests from within the Honors LLC Community will be considered, but cannot be guaranteed.

The location of the LLC, Louis L. Redding Hall, is named for the first African American lawyer admitted to the Delaware Bar. In the case where the size of the incoming first year honors class exceeds the capacity of the building, some honors students may be assigned to an alternate location.

Students will also be supported by two upper-division nursing students, who will organize study sessions, provide information about the program and advocate for new students.

All nursing majors (who are not in the Honors Program) will be assigned to live in the Nursing Nook LLC. Due to this requirement, only roommate requests from within the Nursing Nook LLC will be considered, but cannot be guaranteed.

Gender-Inclusive Housing

UD is committed to providing and developing welcoming and inclusive environments to all students. This housing community intends to support students who are transgender, non-binary or questioning their gender or sexual identities and is open to any first-year student on the gender spectrum.

The Gender-Inclusive housing option supports the University’s non-discrimination policy with respect to sexual orientation, sex, gender and gender identity and, we believe, will result in a more comfortable living environment and on-campus home for some of our students who opt into the community. While the community is often described as a place where students can feel more comfortable with others, the space is not one that stands out visually from any other floor. The community is not separated from the rest of the building and is part of a larger building community.

Gender-Inclusive housing is provided in suite-style housing, where two bedrooms share a bathroom. Each bedrooms typically houses two students (double), but a limited number of single bedrooms are available. Applicants can either request each other as roommates or will be assigned together by our staff. Students in this community can be assigned to live in the same room and share a bathroom with any other community member regardless of sex, gender identity and/or gender expression.

If a vacant space exists in a partially filled unit during the year, the current resident is encouraged to find an agreeable roommate who would live in Gender-Inclusive housing. If that isn't possible, we'll work with the current resident to identify the best solution, but we reserve the right to assign any student there as a gender inclusive space.

Students with questions around housing as it relates to their gender identity or expression can contact our office to talk with a staff member about their options.

Only roommate requests from within this community will be considered, but cannot be guaranteed.

Students can expect a mixture of academic and social activities related to healthcare, from health professions skill building such as a suture clinic to a medical movie night.

No specific major is required, but commonly represented areas include biological sciences, sports health, exercise science, pre-veterinary medicine, medical diagnostics, neuroscience, psychology, human physiology and chemistry.

Only roommate requests from within this community will be considered, but cannot be guaranteed.
