In this new blog series "Discussing Diversity," Aramark Program Manager of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Isabella Pagana answers questions about diversity, equity and inclusion and how Aramark contributes to a welcoming workplace environment for all.

What is the overall mission of Aramark?

Aramark proudly serves the world's leading educational institutions, Fortune 500 companies, champion sports teams, prominent health care providers, iconic destinations, cultural attractions and numerous municipalities in 19 countries around the world with food, facilities and uniform services. Because our culture is rooted in service, our employees strive to do great things for each other, our partners, our communities and our planet.

How do you incorporate values of diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace?

Aramark is determined to create a welcoming place for the expression and education of diverse backgrounds, beliefs and opinions. It’s about creating space for individuals. Our identities shouldn’t create bigger silos; they should create more connectivity. Through that connectivity and having more diverse perspectives in every room, we’re creating a space where better ideas rise to the top and people feel more comfortable in their own skin.

What DE&I programs or initiatives does the company have in place?

Aramark’s approach to diversity, equity and inclusion is centered around our workforce, workplace and marketplace. Aramark strives to create and build structures, programs and systems that can create positive change for people and the planet and offer our employees opportunities for growth in an inclusive environment. All Aramark employees are empowered and encouraged to grow their network of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). Aramark has 11 ERGs that help to create a more inclusive workplace and give voice to the diverse communities that make up Aramark’s workforce.

We’re all on a journey to embody our true selves. We're proud the ERGs empower each employee’s journey, personally and professionally, to be who you want to be, speak up and create positive change. That’s where we thrive and continue to grow together.

How do you ensure that all employees feel welcome, including new hires and interns?

Before someone begins the application process with Aramark, we want them to know Aramark values and respects diversity and appreciates differences. When they come on board with us, we deliver on our commitment to helping you grow in any direction you want to. Our people are our greatest asset and when you feel supported, cared for and welcomed, we thrive together.

Why do you think it’s important to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace environment?

We know that having a diverse and inclusive environment is critical to our ability to innovate the everyday and to deliver great service. We believe when we hire, retain and develop a workforce that reflects the marketplace we serve, our culture is so much more rich because we value and leverage differences and similarities alike. By doing so, we maximize the benefits of diversity and make Aramark a welcoming place for the expression and education of diverse backgrounds, beliefs and opinions.

What are you looking for in UD students who want to intern or work at your company? How can they stand out when speaking with your recruiters at our career fairs?

We’re looking for people that are passionate about hospitality and have an entrepreneurial spirit! The ideal candidate is eager to roll up his or her sleeves and start building a career.

When speaking with our recruiters, highlight your previous experience and involvement on campus. Our recruiters look for students with a holistic background, inclusive of formal work experience, involvement on and off campus and volunteer activities, as well.

If you’re curious about the hiring process, visit our careers site for a robust guide on getting hired.

Are you currently hiring interns or entry-level employees?

We’re always hiring! If you're interested in an internship or post-graduate opportunity with Aramark, we have two pathways. Our Step Up to Leadership (S2L) program is a paid summer internship; the 10-12 week learning experience is for college sophomores, juniors and seniors. If you're a recent graduate or are about to graduate, Accelerate to Leadership (A2L) is for you. For one year after graduation, A2L provides you with the resources you need to unleash your full potential and launch an accelerated career path to a leadership role within Aramark.

Check out our career site at careers.aramark.com for new opportunities each day. Plus, we have a playlist to get you pumped for your next interview! Check it out here on Spotify.

Is there anything else UD students should know about your organization?

We believe a career in food, facilities and uniform services should empower us to become the best we can be and provide a supportive team that helps out along the way. So, no matter what you’re pursuing—a new challenge, a sense of belonging or just a better job—our focus is helping you reach your full potential.
