Transfer Student Housing Application
Transfer Student Housing Application
While incoming transfer students for fall who are not admitted as freshmen are not automatically guaranteed on-campus housing, we do our best to offer space to transfer students. Guarantees will depend on space available and will go out via email on a rolling basis throughout the summer. In recent years, we’ve been able to guarantee those who applied.
No fee is required to apply and the application will close once we have filled our occupancy opportunities.
Students interested in living off campus can find resources to assist with that search on the Moving Off Campus page.

Transfer students should expect to live in traditional and suite-style rooms. We don’t expect apartment-style spaces to be available for transfer students. Most transfer students will live in a double- or triple-occupancy room, as single rooms will likely be unavailable.
When you apply for housing, you are applying to live on campus in general. While you can indicate interest in a specific building on your application, we do not guarantee a particular style of housing, specific room or roommate.
Housing is not automatically guaranteed for transfer students, but we are typically able to offer housing to most students who apply. We recommend applying by the priority deadline for the best consideration.
Housing guarantees will be offered to applicants via email, pending space availability on a rolling basis. Transfer students become bound to the contract five business days after being notified of a housing guarantee.
Guaranteed students will be assigned to spaces by our staff throughout the summer and will be sent their assignment and roommate information via email. Most guaranteed students receive this information by mid-August, but those guaranteed later in summer may receive it in late August or even after the start of the semester.
If you know another student who you'd like to be assigned with, you can enter their information on the Roommate Request page of the housing application. While we do our best to accommodate as many requests as possible, roommates are not guaranteed for any student and will depend on space availability.
We understand that housing is an important factor in deciding whether or not you attend UD. If you are considering off-campus housing, make sure that you have not already become bound to our housing contract before signing an off-campus lease; otherwise, you may be burdened with paying for both.
Transfer students can cancel their application without fee before being guaranteed housing. Once guaranteed and before the contract binding date, they can cancel their application and pay a $200 cancellation fee. Starting on the contract binding date, students become legally bound to the contract and can no longer cancel their application.
Transfer students become bound to the contract five business days from the earlier of: (1) notification of a housing guarantee, (2) selecting a room or (3) receiving a room assignment.
To cancel your application before becoming legally bound, log into the My Housing portal, go to the Application Status section, select Cancel Application/Request for Release from the menu dropdown and follow the steps for your application. You will receive an email confirming your cancellation.
Housing Application Steps
Completing the basic application in the Apply for Housing section of the My Housing Portal is required of all applicants.
