First-Gen Flock Peer Mentor Job Description
Context of the Job
First-Gen Flock Peer Mentors will work with Student Diversity and Inclusion (SDI) staff within the Division of Student Life to give back to first-year, first-generation college students, contributing to their success and belonging at UD. This role is voluntary but can count towards required volunteer hours.
Responsibilities
- Participate in mentor training held at the start of the semester.
- Serve as a mentor for up to 2 first-year first-gen students.
- Have check-ins with assigned mentees twice a month.
- Complete a short monthly survey on the needs of their mentees.
- Attend monthly workshops for first-gen mentors.
- Attend at least 2 First-Gen Flock programs.
- Complete mid-semester and end-of-year evaluations.
- Contribute ideas and new perspectives on building first-generation college student engagement.
- Serve as an ambassador for Student Diversity & Inclusion and participate in the general promotion of student success and engagement around diversity and inclusion.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must be an enrolled undergraduate student and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Must be at least a sophomore in the 2026–2027 academic year.
- Must be a first-generation college student, defined as a student whose parents did not graduate from college with a baccalaureate degree.
- Proficient in Google Applications (Drive, Sheets, Docs, Forms).
- Creative problem-solving skills for mentees and overall first-year cohort.
- Dependable for assigned mentees and cohort leadership.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective leadership, team building and collaboration skills.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Knowledgeable and familiar with various campus resources.
