Back in 1998, UD a cappella group Vocal Point, began with a focus on 80s music, but today they have branched out to modern pop songs. Their executive board is led by President Nick Quintana.
This year, the group celebrates 25 years with a jam-packed schedule of competitions and concerts.
“Vocal Point is excited to compete again this year with goals to achieve even greater things than years past,” Quintana said.
You may have seen them perform either at their annual Acapellooza concert featuring both UD’s MelUDees and Temple University’s LiaChorus at their Phineas and Ferb-themed fall concert, at President Assanis’ holiday party or at various basketball games this winter. Vocal Point was also invited in the fall to perform at the University of Maryland alongside the Faux Paz.
This spring, Vocal Point competed in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCAs) where they placed second in the quarterfinals. On Saturday, March 25, they will continue performing at the Mid-Atlantic ICCA Semifinal. This is Vocal Point’s eighth ICCA semifinal placement.
“Through competition, Vocal Point meets many talented groups and gains performance experience,” said Quintana.
If you are looking to catch Vocal Point this spring, they will be performing on Saturday, April 1, in Washington, D.C. with professional group Augmented Eight for Sing Out for Shelter 2023, an annual benefit concert that raises money to fight homelessness. Additionally, the group is recording music this semester that will be released on Apple Music and Spotify in the fall and are in the midst of planning their special 25th anniversary concert later this year.
“Our 25th anniversary concert will feature past and present Vocal Point members singing both old and new Vocal Point arrangements,” Quintana said. “It will not be something you want to miss.”
