Do you want to work in public relations? Do you want to gain insight into all things PR and make connections of a lifetime? Join PRSSA at the University of Delaware!
The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is the foremost organization for public relations and communications students. The UD chapter has bi-weekly general meetings with professionals in public relations and most are alumni. Fortunately for members, these alumni are willing to share their journeys starting from their time at UD to the success they have now.
PRSSA has a network of UD alumni who are now professionals in the public relations industry who have a passion for helping fellow Blue Hens secure a career.
“We are all about fostering relationships with our epic alumni,” said UD PRSSA President Stella Galli. “Our mission is to instill a passion and motivation to join the public relations field, as well as guide them through the professional development process to launch their career in this exciting, competitive, fast-paced field.”
The goals of the organization are to educate, provide resources and a sense of community for each PRSSA member to be able to prepare each student to launch their career in the communications field. Members can learn industry-sought skills, offer unpaid social media internships with businesses on Main Street (including Newark Deli & Bagels and Grassroots) and gain access to thousands of internships exclusive to PRSSA members.
“Many students struggle with selecting a path they want to take, and PRSSA has helped me hone in on what I want,” said Galli. “I want others to benefit from this, as well. It makes college a lot easier when you know what you want early on.”
In addition, Galli explains that some of these partner employers only hire students going into PR positions if they are members of PRSSA and have some form of involvement, giving members an advantage over other students.
Galli emphasized that PRSSA is what you make of it. “You can be a member and simply sit back at all of the meetings,” she said. “Or you can take advantage of all of the benefits they have to offer.”
Galli encourages all members to apply for the exclusive internships, network with speakers and participate in the mentor-mentee program to secure a professional mentor in the industry.
“Our active members who make the most of our member benefits and run with it will thrive in our organization and in the public relations field,” said Galli.
PRSSA dues are due on Wednesday, November 30, so if you want to join, reach out to Galli at stellag@udel.edu as they wrap up the semester with two more events. Follow PRSSA on Instagram at @prssa_ud.
