Study Abroad Success: Rylee Morrison’s Award-Winning Greek Adventure

In the winter of 2025, University of Delaware student Rylee Morrison participated in the LLCU micro program in Athens, Greece, gaining experiences that extended beyond travel itself. Morrison’s essay, titled "A Greek Awakening (Don’t Try This at Home)," was recognized for its honesty, humor, and depth of reflection, earning third place in the 2025 Study Abroad Storytelling Contest organized by the University of Delaware’s Center for Global Programs & Services.
Professor Tyson Sukava, faculty leader for the program, noted Morrison’s exceptional engagement throughout the program and commended her insightful reflections on the challenges and personal growth associated with study abroad. Morrison’s narrative details her struggle with insomnia, an unexpected visit to a Greek emergency room, and her subsequent immersion in Athenian culture.

A Greek Awakening
Rylee Morrison’s award-winning essay, “A Greek Awakening (Don’t Try This at Home),” recounts her transformative study abroad experience in Athens, Greece during Winter 2025. Despite battling severe insomnia and anxiety that led to a visit to a Greek emergency room early in the trip, Rylee found resilience and joy by immersing herself in the city’s culture, history, and community. She describes forming deep bonds with fellow students and faculty, drawing inspiration from ancient Greek philosophies, and embracing every moment of her journey. Rylee’s story is a candid reflection on overcoming personal challenges, discovering inner strength, and the lasting impact of study abroad on personal growth.
