Diadem Abayode, who graduated from the University of Delaware in 2022, has been named a 2025 designer-in-residence at the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator.

Each year the Incubator provides invited participants with the education, resources, connections and business strategies necessary to grow their brands and companies. Abayode was nominated for the program by her mentor, shoe designer Ruthie Davis.

“As a Nigerian-American designer, I’ve always been inspired by the richness of African culture, especially the bold colors and storytelling found in African prints,” Abayodee said. “Through my brand, I’m on a mission to create more elevated, elegant handbags and accessories that showcase these prints in a modern, refined way.”

Abayode said she is excited about what she calls an “incredible opportunity” to learn from industry professionals and connect with a community of designers who are passionate about their craft.

“This experience is not only helping me bring my vision to life – it’s a meaningful step toward changing how African-inspired fashion is represented and celebrated in the industry,” she said.
