The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Delaware is a dynamic community committed to excellence in teaching, research and interdisciplinary collaboration. We offer a wide range of undergraduate degrees in actuarial sciences, applied mathematics, mathematics, mathematics and data science, mathematics and economics and secondary math education, along with graduate programs in mathematics and applied mathematics. Our faculty lead innovative work across pure and applied mathematics, statistics and data science, while supporting students through hands-on learning, research opportunities and strong academic advising. Whether you are exploring degree options, pursuing advanced study or seeking resources to strengthen your mathematical skills, you will find a supportive environment that empowers discovery and prepares you for in-demand careers.

  • Our f​​​​​​​​aculty do cutting-edge research, publishing over 100 papers per year in refereed journals and conference proceedings. 

  • The department is helping to train the next generation of mathematicians, awarding approximately eight doctoral degrees, 12 master's degrees, and 65 bachelor's degrees each year.
  • Most of our graduate students are funded as teaching assistants, and we are constantly improving the training we provide on how to teach effectively. Students aiming for academic careers have the opportunity to serve as instructor of record.
