Dear Colleagues, Students, Alumni and Friends,
Warm greetings from the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences (PBS). It is a pleasure to share the very first PBS Department newsletter, Mind & Matter.
And the emphasis is on “new!” Not only are we reaching out in a new way, but there are also new people, new events, new spaces and new programs we want to share with you!
Across our department, students, faculty and staff are working together to advance our understanding of mind, brain and behavior—through innovative research, engaged learning and meaningful collaboration. I am proud to report that psychology remains the most popular major at UD, while our neuroscience major is growing steadily. We have welcomed exceptional new teaching and tenure-track faculty, increased our research funding and are actively developing new degree programs. Through it all, our department continues to positively impact nearly every student who comes through the university. As PBS chair, I am especially grateful for the sense of curiosity, support and shared purpose that make our community so strong.
But a community is a two-way street—we don't just want to share our updates with you. We also want you to share back. Whether it is a promotion at work, a major conference presentation, a marriage or new baby, or a personal milestone achieved, we want to hear about it! Our alumni are doing so many interesting things and we want to celebrate those successes.

Expanding our reach
Among several exciting developments, the launch of two community institutes leads the way—the Institute for Community Mental Health and the ABC Parenting Institute. On campus, our students now benefit from a state-of-the-art laboratory designed for hands-on learning in psychology and neuroscience.
Mentorship and community impact
Whether in the lab or on the front lines of community service, our graduates demonstrate the diverse impact of a UD education. Throughout all stages of their careers, PBS graduates secure prestigious appointments and earn recognition.
Committed leadership and community service
Meet Anna Klintsova, a faculty member for more than 20 years who begins a new role as the department chair. As PBS faculty continue to drive progress through leadership and service, the department welcomes six new teaching and tenure-track faculty members in 2025–26.
Beyond the classroom
Whether they are in the lab or overseas, PBS students are pursuing their passions for neuroscience and psychology through hands-on research, community service and study-abroad adventures.
