Do you wonder what it’s like to attend the English Language Institute (ELI)?
Meet English Language Institute alumna Lena Alrowais, who graduated from the University of Delaware in 2026 with a bachelor's of science in computer science. Lena attended the ELI in the first cohort of female students sent through Saudi Arabia's SABIC program as well as founded the Saudi Student Association – a student-run club that celebrates Saudi culture.

I recently graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor's of science in computer science.
Where I'm going
I will join SABIC to work in the cybersecurity department.
How did the ELI prepare you for your career?
The ELI strengthened my English and helped me communicate with confidence. These skills supported me throughout my studies, leadership experiences and career preparation.
What are you most proud of since graduating from the ELI?
I am especially proud of founding the Saudi Student Association at UD and serving as its president. Creating a community for Saudi students was one of the most meaningful parts of my university experience.
What are your current academic or career goals?
My goal is to grow as a cybersecurity professional at SABIC. I also hope to continue developing my leadership and technical skills.
What is one of your favorite memories from your time as a student at the ELI?
One of my favorite memories was meeting students from around the world. The ELI helped me feel welcomed and connected when I first came to UD.
Do not be afraid to speak English or make mistakes. Meet new people, participate in activities and enjoy the experience.
