Tour Santa Fe with art history scholars

May 01, 2025 Written by Department of Art History staff

Join a scholar-led tour to Sante Fe, New Mexico, with faculty from Art History

In a new initiative, the Department of Art History, in collaboration with the Alumni Association, is launching a scholar-led travel program that will introduce the expertise of the department’s faculty to UD alumni at-large.

Travelers are increasingly drawn to in-depth touring during which cultural destinations are explored with specialists who can offer insight and experiences normally inaccessible to the casual tourist. The department’s scholars, with their exceptional knowledge and focus, are especially equipped to meet this need. Through this new program, faculty members will engage the UD alumni community by hosting memorable vacations that also raise the profile of the department and its research.

The first journey, led by Jessica Horton and Sandy Isenstadt, will bring participants to Santa Fe, New Mexico, during Indian Market week, August 10–17, 2025.  This trip will focus on the rich Native American culture that pervades Santa Fe and its environs and will include special access to multiple venues. Among itinerary highlights are entrée to the Institute of American Indian Arts; a visit to Santa Clara Pueblo on its sacred Feast Day;  an exclusive tour of historic buildings; curator-led tours of museums and art foundations; introductions to artists in private gallery viewings and in behind-the-scenes studio visits; a meeting with the founder of the Poeh Cultural Center; a tour the Puye Cliff Dwellings; and the culminating event of Indian Market.
