Faculty in the University of Delaware Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures published several new books and publications while also receiving honors for their scholarship, service and leadership.
Marcaline Boyd earns prestigious recognition for teaching and research excellence
Marcaline Boyd, associate professor of Classics, received the 2025 Gerard J. Mangone Young Scholars Award in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Business, and Education and the 2025 Arts and Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award.
Meghan McInnis-Dominguez recognized for outstanding service
Meghan McInnis-Dominguez, associate professor of Spanish, received the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Service award in 2025. She also received an $8,200 Mellon Fellowship and a UD Provost’s Office Grant of $2,500 to participate in the HERS Leadership Institute.
McInnis-Dominguez was named president-elect of the University's Faculty Senate for the remainder of the 2025–26 academic year and previously served as the vice president. She was also the chair and co-chair of the Faculty Senate Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Ana Onacea publishes Dangerous Creations
Ana Onacea, associate professor of French, published Dangerous Creations: The Inventor Novel in Fin-de-Siècle France, University of Toronto Press. She also participated in the Scholarly Writing Institute at the National Humanities Center thanks to UD sponsorship.
Laura Salsini co-edits periodical issue on women’s autobiographical writings
Laura Salsini, professor of Italian, co-edited a special issue of the periodical Women Language Literature in Italy/ Donne Lingua Letturatura in Italia on women’s autobiographical writings.
Julia Domínguez publishes Mental Libraries
Julia Domínguez, professor of Spanish, published the edited volume Mental Libraries: The Reception of the Arts of Memory in Literature and Culture, Routledge Press. She also received an IRCH Course Innovation Grant and UD Career Center Faculty & Staff Career Innovation Grant (FSCIG).
Basia Moltchanov and Julia Domínguez awarded grant
Basia Moltchanov, associate professor of Spanish, and Julia Domínguez received a $10,000 grant from the Delaware Department of Education for their teacher program in Cáceres, Spain, which supports professional development for Spanish language teachers in Delaware. The teachers earn graduate credit in the program, which includes a five-week course and a two-week trip to Spain that includes classes at the University of Extremadura.
Rachael Hutchinson publishes The Handbook of Japanese Games and Gameplay
Rachael Hutchinson, interim department chair and professor of Japanese and game studies, published the edited volume The Handbook of Japanese Games and Gameplay, University of Amsterdam Press.
Frank Mondelli and Rachael Hutchinson receive award
Frank Mondelli, assistant professor of Japanese, and Rachael Hutchinson received a North East Asia Council award from the Association for Asian Studies for over $6,000 to support their translation project and workshop, Translating Japanese Videogame Theory.
Margaret Laird joins American Academy in Rome Board of Trustees
Margaret Laird, adjunct instructor of Ancient Greek and Roman Studies, was elected to the board of trustees of the American Academy in Rome, as the representative of the Advisory Council on Classical Studies.
Alexander Selimov publishes poetry collections
Alexander Selimov, professor of Iberian and Latin American Studies, published three poetry collections in 2025: Cosmic Beat, Bottlecap Press, Dolor Fantasma de la Habana, Ediciones Almargen/CAUCE, Cuba, and Afterburn, Ibero-American Literary Society.
