Megan Gatto applied to UD's Department of Art and Design after spending her freshman year with an undeclared major. She knew that pursuing a path in the arts was the right decision and aspired to use art to contribute meaningfully to her community. Learning about material, meaning, intention and process from professors including Virginia Bradley, David Meyer and Lance Winn further reinforced that art can be a tool for powerful social commentary and change. She was further inspired to explore human services and the arts after studying documentary photography in Tanzania with Jon Cox and a summer internship experience at Art Relief International in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Megan returned to Baltimore, Maryland, and has worked in the non-profit sector since 2015. Working for the non-profit visual art organization Art with a Heart, Megan utilized her degree and volunteer experience to plan, coordinate and facilitate classes to youth, families and adults in Baltimore's divested communities. After nine years of growth within the organization, Megan is now the executive director and leads the organization's impactful work across youth development, community art and workforce development fields.

My life experiences in Italy and the USA, horrible and beautiful as they might be, influence and fuel my practice. I explore ways of making new spaces that detach from the realities in which we live. These alternative spaces attempt to start a conversation about human emotions and experiences. After moving to the USA from a rural farm in Italy, I realized the important role that physical labor plays in my creative process. Physical labor is often evident through use of multiples in the work. This use of multiples liberates and infuses energy into the spaces and environments I create.

Katie Yost rediscovered her love of art while a student at UD. After beginning her studies as a biology major, she added an art minor before eventually double majoring in art and biology. Thanks to Professor David Brinley, Yost realized that the field of medical illustration combined her interests, and after graduating from UD she earned an MS in biomedical visualization from University of Illinois at Chicago.

As a medical illustrator/animator at Harvard Medical School, Yost works with faculty and content experts to create visuals for online courses, helping train the next generation of medical professionals. And, like aspiring physicians, medical illustrators learn anatomy at a cadaver lab, an experience that might not be for everyone, but Yost found fascinating.

In her free time, Yost enjoys travel, hiking and trail running, and she likes to draw and paint, especially in her travel sketchbook.
