Biography
Alice D. Ba, PhD (University of Virginia, 2000) is Emma Smith Morris Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. Her work on the international relations of East and Southeast Asia examines the structures, processes, and systemic effects of regionalism and cooperative regime building, as well as relations between smaller and major powers. Recent work has also addressed the role of strategic narratives and the changing conditions of regional cooperation in Asia. The author of (Re)Negotiating East and Southeast Asia: Region, Regionalism, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Stanford 2009), she has received US Fulbright awards for work in Beijing and Singapore. She teaches courses on Southeast Asia's world relations and development, the international relations of Asia, Chinese foreign policy, and comparative regionalisms and served as Director of Asian Studies at the University of Delaware from 2009-2014 and Acting Chair from 2023-2024.
