Journalism Minor
WELCOME TO THE JOURNALISM MINOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE
The University of Delaware's Department of Communication offers an exciting interdisciplinary journalism minor program that is open to all students, regardless of their major, from across all colleges. The minor requires 18 credits of coursework — 9 hours of required courses and 9 hours of electives — and must include at least two courses outside a student’s major field.
Learn the fundamentals, then put your journalism skills into action
The program equips students with essential skills in information gathering, writing, and producing news stories across various media platforms, including print, broadcast, and digital media. Students also delve into the foundations of news and media literacy, preparing them to navigate and contribute to the evolving landscape of journalism.
A key component of the journalism minor is the emphasis on experiential learning. Students gain practical experience through internships and by participating in student media organizations at UD, such as The Review, STN49, and WVUD Radio. These opportunities allow students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings, enhancing their skills and professional readiness.
Graduates with a journalism minor from the University of Delaware pursue diverse careers in newspapers, local and national television stations, radio stations, production companies, magazines, and political communication roles, among others.
The Department of Communication encourages prospective students to explore the website to learn more about the activities, resources, scholarships, and funding opportunities available to journalism minors.
