Research Interests/Biography

Alenka Hlousek-Radojcic, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Biology, a science educator with a doctorate in Plant Molecular Biology and a strong commitment to evidence-based, interdisciplinary teaching. At the University of Delaware, she teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, including the biology part of the Honors Integrated Introductory Biology and Chemistry, stand alone Introductory Biology, Microbiology, and co-teaches with Dr. Timmins, Making Science Make Sense, a course focused on science communication.

Dr. Hlousek-Radojcic co-developed and co-teaches the foundational two-semester integrated biology-chemistry curricula designed for STEM majors. These courses foster a supportive learning community encouraging first-year students to explore how chemistry concepts apply to, and natural laws guide, biological systems, through iterative, collaborative, student centered learning. Alongside conceptual understanding, students develop durable skills such as metacognition, critical thinking, problem solving, and systems thinking. Through open-ended laboratory investigations and data-driven inquiry, students hone their research skills while engaging in authentic scientific exploration, often culminating in presentations at local scientific conferences.

As co-coordinator of the teaching team, Dr. Hlousek-Radojcic collaborates with faculty, preceptors, graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants, and Honors College Teaching Fellows. Her leadership emphasizes mentorship and the development of future citizens, scientists, and educators.
