Nicholas Collins received his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Neuroscience from the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware. His research broadly examines how environmental experiences shape the brain and behavior. His doctoral work investigated how early-life caregiving experiences can buffer against or contribute to later behavioral and neurobiological outcomes following early-life stress.

More recently, his research has expanded to Drosophila melanogaster (the common fruit fly), where he has investigated how social isolation alters feeding behavior, dietary preference, and stress-related physiology. He is particularly interested in translating his research experience into the classroom, using neuroscience research as a pedagogical tool to help undergraduate students connect foundational concepts with real-world questions in psychology and behavior.
