3+2 Accelerated SLP Program

3+2 Accelerated SLP Program

What is this program?

This accelerated degree program allows students to earn a bachelor of science in cognitive science with a concentration in speech-language pathology and a master of arts in speech-language pathology from the University of Delaware in five years instead of the traditional six.

To complete the program in this time frame, students must finish all requirements for the bachelor’s degree in cognitive science, housed in the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science, within three years. The master’s portion of the program is completed through the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Who should apply to this program?

This program is ideal for highly motivated students who wish to remain at UD to pursue their master’s degree in speech-language pathology and complete both degrees on an accelerated timeline.

We especially encourage applications from students entering UD with previously earned credits, such as those from dual enrollment, Advanced Placement (AP), or similar programs, as they are well-positioned to benefit from the program’s streamlined path to completion.

How much does the program cost?

For the undergraduate portion of the program, the cost will depend on whether the student needs to take summer and/or winter courses to complete the requirements in three years.

For the MA portion of the program, students pay by the credit hour. The credit hour rate can be found here.

When do I apply to this program?

Students apply during their third year.

However, if you are considering this pathway, it is important to begin consulting with your undergraduate advisor as early as possible. Early advising will help ensure that you follow the appropriate course plan and meet all prerequisites for this track.

If you are a Cognitive Science major in the SLP concentration and are seriously interested in this pathway, please fill out this interest form.

What are the eligibility requirements for entering this program?

To apply to the 3+2 program, students must meet the following criteria:

  • GPA: Maintain a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.6, as well as a 3.6 GPA within the Cognitive Science major, by the time of application.
  • Major Requirements: Complete all requirements for the Cognitive Science major by the end of the third undergraduate year.
  • Credit Requirements: Because up to 15 credits can be shared between the BS and MA degrees, students must have completed at least 109 credits by the end of their third year. The other 15 can be taken as part of the MA.
