What major must I pursue to prepare for law school?
Law schools don't require a specific undergraduate major. What is most important is that you study your most significant area of interest while focusing on these key skills:
- Critical thinking and analysis
- Writing
- Research
- Communication
Students pursue majors across all disciplines with some common programs of study being political science, English, sociology, public policy, marketing, philosophy and management.
The minor in legal studies provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to explore the law from an interdisciplinary perspective. Legal studies is not a “pre-law” program, and it does not offer paralegal training. However, the program is a suitable minor for those who plan to pursue professional training.

Kappa Alpha Pi prepares members for law school and successful careers through LSAT prep, admissions workshops, and mentorship from T14 alumni. Its professional development programs build skills like public speaking, resume writing, and networking. With a strong brotherhood and a wide alumni network in law, government, and graduate programs, KAPi offers lifelong connections and career opportunities.
As a member of the American Mock Trial Association, the team competes nationally in trial simulations, allowing students to explore legal interests while developing critical thinking, public speaking, and performance skills. With guidance from attorney coaches, members receive valuable mentorship. Students from any major or year are welcome to learn more at Activities Night or early fall meetings.
Women in Law and Politics provides members with information about internships, networking events, and classes to support their career goals in law and politics. Through biweekly meetings, members share resources and discuss professional experiences, while building a supportive community of like-minded women
